An overwhelming number of business people are at their wits end regarding having staff follow a system. The shame is that in many cases they've all but given up and are pouring an inordinate amount of resources at the problem or worse still have accepted a product or service delivery that is less than the expectation of their customers.
Face the facts...if you haven't been able to get your staff to follow a system first stop blaming them! Review the system and the available documentation, review the training program and its content and review your recruitment process. Somewhere amongst these locations is the problem.
Most businesses fail in all three areas mainly because there is no current documentation to assist with the implementation of the business systems. If there's no documents, then the training will be flawed.
So once you've identified that this is the problem do not despair, just make a plan and implement it. Small steps...the end is closer than you think!

THE PLAN

Identify the Key Business Areas of your business that you want to document. (Time committed - 2 hours)

List the documents that you want to write for each area. Aim for at least 300 documents (2 hours)

Write the content of each document (Varies - allow 10-15 minutes per document - 50-75 hours for 300, an hour a day for 10 weeks...not much really considering this will be the most important task you complete for the year)

Publish them for all employees present and future to use. (About 2 minutes if you have TKO)

The three most important things you should be doing online

Having a web site for your business isn't any good without an online plan. There are three critical elements to this plan which are listed below. These are not the only elements but certainly are ones that you should be addressing as soon as possible.
- Be found. How will your ideal clients find your web site. If you're relying on word of mouth or people sending your URL to others, forget it. You need to be proactive and consider all of the methods available to you that will help you to be in front of the right clients at the time that they are in need of your product. Methods include pay per click marketing, directories and links from other web sites in your industry.
- Be relevant. Once you are found your web site then has to contain relevant information about what services and products you can provide, where you operate, where you are located and why a prospect should choose you for this service and not others. Don't hide from your clients behind a form when they want to contact you. Ensure you're giving them a phone and email address to contact you quickly if needed. Many browsers who are wanting to make a purchase decision will click away from your web site if you don't make it easy to contact you.

3. Give to get. How are you going to find out who is there. Once a browser has arrived at your site, unless you are selling online only, you need to have methods and techniques of getting the prospects information so that you can follow them up and move them through your sales process (yes you do have a sales process). The absolute best way to do this is by giving them free, valuable information or tools connected to your major product offering. You'd be amazed how few people do this. It's as simple as a white paper or e-book on the topic that you write and then supply free to whoever registers.
These items are just some of the important factors you must consider when creating your online plan. Get specialist help if need be because all of the historical marketing rules do not apply. There are another whole set of rules that you must learn in order for your web site to work effectively for you. Spend the time, the rewards can be massive.
